 Indiana Medicaid Waivers

Indiana offers several Medicaid waiver programs that allow children with disabilities to receive specialized services and supports while living at home with their families. Each waiver serves different needs and has different eligibility requirements.

Family Supports Waiver (FSW)

The Family Supports Waiver is the primary entry point for families with children who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. Services include respite care, family training, counseling, and in-home support to help your family manage daily care needs.

To Apply: Contact your local Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS) office at 1-800-545-7763 or online at  https://bddsgateway.fssa.in.gov/

Community Integration and Habilitation (CIH) Waiver

The CIH Waiver provides more extensive services for individuals with developmental disabilities who have priority needs, such as aging caregivers, safety concerns, or transition from institutional settings. This waiver offers day programs, employment services, and community-based supports.

Phone: 1-800-545-7763

Health and Wellness Waiver

The Health and Wellness Waiver serves individuals under age 60 with physical disabilities, chronic medical conditions, or brain injuries who need nursing facility-level care but prefer to live at home. Services include adaptive equipment, nursing care, therapy, and home modifications.

To Apply: Contact Aging and In-Home Services of Northeast Indiana, Inc. (260) 745-1200 or info@agingihs.org.  An options counselor will complete a preliminary assessment and place you on the waitlist if eligible.

Structured Family Caregiving (SFC)

This program allows parents or family members to be paid as direct support professionals for their child, ensuring quality, consistent care while creating employment for the family caregiver.

To Apply: Contact your local BDDS office at 1-800-545-7763. Ask about Structured Family Caregiving opportunities when you apply for the Family Supports Waiver or CIH Waiver.

TEFRA/Katie Beckett Waiver

This waiver is specifically for children with serious medical conditions who might otherwise require hospitalization. It allows medically complex children to receive care at home with Medicaid coverage, regardless of the family’s income level.

To Apply: Contact your local Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-713-9023. Ask specifically about TEFRA or Katie Beckett Waiver eligibility for your medically complex child.
